Thoughts from Director of Operations, Cathy Mills

The summer is flying by and it is that time of year when the kids are getting ready to go back to school.  What a nostalgic feeling.  The weather is changing and everyone’s routines are changing. For some people it can be a joyous time and for some it is a depressing time.  Which is it for you?

Recently a group of SPLH team members had the opportunity for an excellent training about dementia. We learned some techniques that can be used with people experiencing some day-to-day challenges. Here is one of the many tips from proven studies:  remember that many people living with Alzheimer’s Dementia are living in a world where they feel and believe they are between the ages of 15 and 30 years old.  With that being said, when we are connecting with them, it is a probability we need to step into their world with them.

We are enhancing the quality of lives for the residents by partnering with Encounter Telehealth.  It is believed that good mental health supports good physical health.   Ultimately, this allows residents to remain at their home which helps them feel at ease and benefit most from the visit with the provider.

As the fall months approach and weather is changing, you or a loved one may benefit from living in the Gernand Village or the Assisted Living where our team of professionals can make your life easier.  I certainly could offer you a tour.

When you are feeling nostalgic, I leave you with a couple of thoughts and a smile from this article. See you soon!

“Memory has always fascinated me.  Think of it. You can recall at will your first day of high school, your first date, and your first love.”  – Eric Kandel
